As the snow melts and the earth begins to stir, the first signs of spring emerge in the forest with Hawthorn, Wild Cherry, and Hobblebush blossoms.
These early blooms—are a welcome sight after the long, quiet hush of winter.
First Blooms of Spring captures the gentle awakening of the season through the luminous, layered technique of egg tempera on panel. Inspired by the native flora of Muskoka, I’ve transplanted these trees and shrubs into a wild area of my garden, where they often become the subject of a spring painting.
Though this painting is rooted in a personal space, the beauty of these blooms is shared across the Muskoka woods, where they signal spring’s arrival for all to see.
This work is a celebration of renewal, of quiet resilience, and of the subtle magic that marks nature’s return.
